Kapi Cam’s TikTok strategy: 104 videos, 1.03B views, 48 accounts

Kapi Cam is a vintage camera app for iPhone and Android that SenseTime, the Chinese AI company, says it developed; its filters copy old digicams, CCD cameras, film and early phones like the Nokia. On TikTok it spreads through creators who film the Kapi Cam viewfinder, press the shutter and cut to the finished photo. We track 104 Kapi Cam videos with 50,000+ views: 1,028,358,534 views in total, a median of 2,844,738, and a top video with 110,658,731. No app in our library has more views, and none with 100+ videos has a higher median.

Which Kapi Cam videos did best?

View counts are from when we saved each video. We only track app videos with 50,000+ views. Opening line is the first on-screen text, as posted, with the Portuguese translated in parentheses.

The top video has no face and no voice. @kaocoffe films her desk of toys, lamps and drawings from behind the phone, with the app open from the first frame, and each shot cuts to the full-screen photo (0:02, 0:09, 0:20). The caption carries an App Store offer code with her name in it.

Five of the top 10 are @kaocoffe desk videos, and four of the other five name the same filter: Nokia. 74 of the 104 videos passed 1M views.

What does a Kapi Cam TikTok look like?

• The setting: a desk of toys and sketchbooks, a dim bedroom, a graffiti wall, a parking garage.
• The first second: the app is on screen. 50 of the 102 videos with timing data show it within one second.
• The cut: viewfinder, shutter, full-screen photo, repeated every few seconds.
• The label: the app and the filter as text, like “App: Kapi Cam, Filtro: Nokia”. 14 videos name the Nokia filter, and they have 275,380,333 views.
• The sound: a song. On-screen text does the talking, and none of the top 10 has a voiceover pitch. The median video runs 17 seconds.
• The ask: none in 52 of the 104 videos, and caption only in 33 more.

The real-world shot matters. The 52 videos that mix footage of the scene with the app screen have a median of 4,163,998 views; the 31 pure screen recordings have 1,720,466. The hooks are pictures too: 38 videos open on a curiosity gap (a striking photo, no explanation yet).

The less a video explains, the better it does: text over a photo shoot beats a step-by-step tutorial about six to one at the median.

Why does it work?

• The product is the content. The output is a photo, and people stop for good photos anyway. 100 of the 104 videos show the app in use, so the demo is the entertainment.
• It answers a question viewers already have. “Como fazer essas fotos pelo celular” has 91,349,663 views, and “How can I get this photo?” from @maioney5 has 24,844,433. The answer is two words to search: the app and the filter.
• It sells a flaw as a style. “low quality photos are always the best” (32,231,767 views) and “low quality pics.” from @luckyer_lan (26,442,197) make grain the point. The 25 videos the library tags with the trend “Digicam without a digicam” hold 74% of all views.
• Viewers keep the videos. They have 1,634,072 saves and 291,172 shares, about 5.6 saves per share. Prayer Lock’s sermons ask viewers to send them on. Kapi Cam’s videos get saved.
• Anyone can make one. 38 of the 48 accounts appear once in our data, and their videos have a median of 3,067,712 views; 32 of the 38 passed 1M. We only track videos with 50,000+ views, so flops are not in these numbers.

Which accounts post for Kapi Cam?

One art account holds a third of the views: the 9 videos from @kaocoffe have 354,658,982, or 34.5% of the total.

• @kaocoffe, the desk: 8 of its 9 videos show no face. The captions are in Spanish, two with the offer code KAOCOFFE. The account has also posted for the camera app OldRoll and the AI chat app Tipsy Chat.
• @irisday01, the photo shoot: 14 posed shoots at a graffiti wall, on a street or in a parking garage, each with a Vietnamese title like “CHỤP ẢNH CÙNG KAPI CAM” (Take photos with Kapi Cam). Her graffiti wall shoot has 23,084,430 views.
• @maioney5, the feature tests: 26 videos from August 25 to October 28, 2026, mostly one feature each: the Nokia filter, an AI framing guide, watercolor edits, Halloween looks. Its median, 861,128, is the lowest of the big accounts.

These three hold 49 of the 104 videos. The 38 one-video accounts have 349,775,619 views between them, almost as many as @kaocoffe. When did Kapi Cam take off on TikTok?

The biggest wave came first. The 21 videos from 2025 hold 545,892,338 views, 53% of the total, and 13 of them, from 13 accounts, went up between November 1 and December 29, 2025.

On December 31, 2025, SenseTime said Kapi Cam had reached the top of the App Store’s Photo & Video category on December 29, and was No. 1 on the overall charts in the Philippines and New Zealand. It claimed more than 10 million users. The Philippines is the top region in our data, with 20 videos and 167,327,466 views. The timing lines up, but public posts cannot prove the videos caused the ranking.

Since then, volume went up and views went down. September and October 2026 have 47 videos (45% of the total) but 18% of the views, and 23 of the 47 come from @maioney5. Newer videos have also had less time to collect views.

How do you use this for your app?

1. Open on the output. If your app makes something people can see, put it in the first frame, before any face or logo.
2. Show the capture and the result together: viewfinder, shutter, photo. Real footage plus the app screen beat pure screen recordings by more than two to one at the median.
3. Name the exact setting on screen. “Filtro: Nokia” gives viewers a word to search. Repeat one preset’s name across accounts.
4. Answer the question viewers already ask. “How can I get this photo?” works because the viewer wanted the answer before the video began. More openers are in our hook examples by format.
5. Shoot subjects that look good with no edit: a busy desk, a pet, a face in low light.
6. Spread one idea over many accounts and languages, and keep a few repeat accounts to show each new feature.
7. Keep the pitch in the caption. Half of Kapi Cam’s videos have no call to action at all.
